Dr. Maria Farrugia (Osteopath)
Maria graduated from RMIT University with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Complementary Medicine) and a Masters of Osteopathy. The holistic nature of osteopathy and emphasis on the body’s capacity for self-healing is what initially drew Maria to osteopathy. She believes that in combination with osteopathic treatment, it is important to empower patients to take a proactive approach to their rehabilitation from injury by educating them on the causes of their injury and giving them the tools to aid their recovery; such as rehabilitative exercises, ergonomic and lifestyle strategies or dietary advice.
Maria tailors her treatment approach to suit each individual’s specific injury and condition, utilising a range of techniques to enable a patient to return to their optimal function. These can include massage and myofascial release, joint mobilisation and gentle manipulation, muscle contraction/relaxation techniques, trigger point dry needling, and kinesiotaping (rocktaping).
Maria is registered with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulatory Association (AHPRA) and a member of Osteopathy Australia. As a membership and registration requirement, Maria has to undertake at least 25 hours of continuing professional development a year.
